Dental Work
Just catching up on some posts, have been working a lot, maybe someone else
answered this more correctlty, in case they haven't. hope this helps.
Dentists typically give patients a pain killer that contains norenephrine. It
is an agent that speeds up the process of the pain killer so that they can
work on you faster after it's administered AND that it is out of your system
faster as well.
Invididuals with heart conditions are advised by their physicians to request
an anesthetic "Without Epi." All dentists have this type of anethetic on hand
for such cases and you can request it as well. It takes a bit longer for it
to work/numb you up, but you don't get the racing heart that is possible with
regular anesthesia.
Tell your dentist ahead of time that you want a pain killer "Without the Epi,
or without epenephrine" and they can administer that instead.
If your dentists questions you as to why, which he or she may, simply tell
them that you've had adverse reactions to medications lately (which is the
truth) and it has been advised that you not have the regular anesthesia. Or
you can level with him and say you're sicker than a dog and don't want your
heart to race more than it already does and that it was the benzos that made
you so sick. Your choice, I opted for something down the middle.
As far as how it will effect withdrawal, it MAY make you feel worse for a day
or two to have the dental work done, but nothing major. If you receive
antibiotics as well, that may make you feel worse for a time as well.
Generally for a filling it'll just be the anesthesia. But again, IF you do
have a bit rougher time afterwards, it'll most likely be shortlived! I had a
major infection that required antibiotics prior to oral surgery and then
after an extraction of the tooth. I opted for a local/topical anethesia
instead of being put under, and the procedure was followed by additional
heavy duty antibiotics, I was at the tail end of my taper when this occured.
I felt worse for a couple of days, but not bad, and I didn't walk around
looking like Popeye anymore afterwards!
You'll do fine.
Hugs,
