Subject: Things that helped me
Hi friends,
Its me again. You're probably tired of my advice and bragging about getting
well but I made another list out. These are the things that helped me recover
and kept me somewhat sane in my darkest days. I survived the depression, the
anger, the confusion, the pain, and yes Jenny the tears. So here's my list of
things that helped me personally.
BENZO FRIEND- I had someone I talked to from the group almost daily. We were
at about the same pace and same circumstances about our withdrawal. We could
compare notes and offer support. This was VERY helpfull to me.
WALKS- Especially the park.
CHAMOMILE TEA- Somewhat soothing at times
RESCUE REMEDY DROPS- Again Somewhat relaxing
QUIET TIME- If agravated by friends, family, anyone
STRESS REDUCTION- I avoided GOOD and BAD stress if at all possible
UNFINISHED BUSINESS- Try to not worry about this. IT gets done eventually.
When you feel up to it.
HUGS- And lots of them. Demand them if you have to.
FINAL GOAL- Something you cannot do on the benzos. Mine was to be a better Dad. Only recovery would accomplish this
VIDEOS- " It's a wonderfull life" My favorite. No slasher movies !
CAFFEINE & SUGAR- Avoid or eliminate
RELAXING HOBBIE- Like fishing or gardening. This gave me some time alone and gave my wife a break.
JOURNAL- This I didn't do enough. I only started late. But I find it helpfull
to write stuff down.
BENZO HORROR STORIES- If you start to read something disturbing- STOP-read it
later when you feel better.
ACCEPTANCE- Of symptoms as temporary. NOT who you are to become.
LARGE CROWDS- I could not do this much. Later it becomes easier.
INTIMACY- A great stress reducer. If you're up to it. Pun intended guys.
ARGUEING- Try not to argue with anyone. Let the anger pass quitely.
THE GROUP- You're never alone. Someones been there and understands.
These things helped me. Everyone may be different but I know I needed
suggestions back then.
Of course somedays its hard to do possitive things. But just try and do
anything to get your mind off your temporary pain.
I hope this helps someone with some ideas. I know alot of you know most of
this but I just want to help if at all possible. I know it sucks, but better
days do come.
Jenn, Jenny, Tarra, Beth, Robert, Doc, Kathy and anyone having a hard time. I
hope you feel better soon.
Much Healing,
Tom- 8 months benzo free
ps- sorry so long a post
